Booked Solid Kamps Lodges grows internet revenue 480%

Challenge: Increase website traffic, create a strong internet marketing strategy, optimize search engine rankings and increase conversion rates for visitors to Kamps Lodges.

Answer: Create a new website that would be easier for customers to navigate. Optimize that website for the best traffic-generating terms in Kamps Lodges’ industry. Then, create and optimize an SEO campaign that would integrate link-building, content development, and regular site performance reviews.

Background: Idyllic Lodges, No Traffic

Kamps Lodges is the Alaska tour and lodges division of Kamps Cruise Lines. The company owns and operates five luxury hotels and lodges throughout Alaska. With a wide range of rail tours available to lodge guests, Kamps offers visitors a spectacular view of the state. Unfortunately, Kamps’ website was not doing a good job of converting visitors into sales.

In 2010, Kamps Lodges Asset Marketing Manager contacted Metaphix. He wanted us to improve the search engine rankings of Kamps Lodges and transform the website into a successful marketing tool. We eagerly rose to the challenge.

Solved: Efficient Design, SEO-Ready

Working together with Kamps Lodges, we were able to optimize the site’s design to integrate a more content-rich approach that appealed to both visitors and the algorithms behind search engine rankings. We simplified the website’s architecture and streamlined the sales process. Ultimately, we wanted to make it easy for customers to learn everything about a particular hotel before directing them to a room booking engine.

By further integrating our keyword mining algorithms with the site’s content, we were able to anticipate user demand and begin to drive targeted traffic through the sales cycle.

While we were perfecting the site’s SEO campaign, we were also launching a minimalist PPC campaign using Google AdWords. In a niche market like lodging in Alaska, there were plenty of low-hanging fruit available to be picked. Before long, we were driving a significant amount of traffic to the site using low-cost regional keywords as well as tour-related terms.

In March of 2010, Metaphix launched the new and improved Kamps Lodges website. Since that point, we have continuously monitored and tweaked the site’s traffic, conversions, and search engine rankings. We’ve also added new features and content to the site in order to increase its appeal and generate increased search engine traffic.

Front Page Rankings, Higher Traffic, Higher Revenues

The success of the Kamps Lodges website told a fantastic story of what front page rankings can do to a brand. Our SEO campaign has generated an astounding level of business for Kamps Lodges due to the steady rise in the website’s search rank, traffic, and online conversions. We’ll let the numbers speak for themselves.

In less than two years, Kamps Lodges has seen 300% growth in internet bookings. KampsLodges.com now receives twice as many unique visitors per month as it did before our internet marketing campaign began.

Fuelling this growth is our winning combination of niche traffic from Google AdWords and natural search engine traffic from Google. When these visitors arrive at the Kamps Lodges’ optimized and streamlined website, it doesn’t take long before many of them book a room. As a result, the number of reservations made at Kamps Lodges tripled and the website’s conversion rate increased dramatically.

Metaphix wasn’t done. In 2010, we continued to add a new rail tours reservations system. Using this innovative system, we were able to triple the conversion rate of Kamps Lodges’ rail tours.

Ultimately, Metaphix was able to increase Kamps Lodges’ internet revenue by over 480% between 2010 and 2011. This amazing level of growth led the Kamps Lodges website to be declared the fastest growing source of revenue for both tours and lodge bookings during this time period.
